Konnichiwa Anne is an anime produced by Nippon Animation as part of
the 26th World
Masterpiece Theatre series. The plotline is based on Budge Wilson's Before
Green Gables, which is a prequel to L. M. Montgomery's Anne
of Green Gables, and
was published in 2008 during the 100th anniversary year of Anne of Green
Gable's
publication. Before
Green Gables was translated into Japanese as
"Konnichiwa Anne" by Akiko Usagawa.
Before Green Gables describes Anne's early life of hardship before she
is adopted by Matthew and Marilla in Avonlea. The story begins when Anne
Shirley
is six years old and living with foster families in Nova Scotia. The series
consists of 39 half-hour episodes. Konnichiwa An will begin to air on BS
Fuji on April 5, 2009 at 7:30 p.m.
Konnichiwa Anne (????? ??) will be a prequel to Akage
no An, which was
produced by Nippon Animation in 1979 as part of the World Masterpiece
Theatre series and directed by future
Studio Ghibli founder Isao Takahata. The prequel anime will mark the 30th
anniversary of the original show.
Konnichiwa Anne is one of a group of Anne prequels that have been produced
in recent years, such as the animated Anne: Journey
to Green Gables (2004) and Anne of Green Gables:
A New Beginning (2008) produced by Sullivan Entertainment.
